Synthese 11 Bert Baumgaertner University of Idaho. I approach the study of echo chambers from the perspective of veritistic social epistemology. A trichotomous belief model is developed featuring a mechanism by which agents will have a tendency to form agreement in the community. The model is implemented as an agent-based model in NetLogo and then used to investigate a social practice called Impartiality, which is a plausible means for resisting or dismantling echo chambers. The implementation exposes additional factors that need close consideration in an evaluation of Impartiality.

The debate on whether college football will start on time — or play a full season — in the fall is far from over. WDRB — I wish I could share inspiring news other than the back-and-forth about the likelihood of college football being played in There is little of that — other than an interesting note about a quarterback who punished the University of Louisville and rejected the University of Kentucky.

For another day, the college football notebook remains a novel coronavirus notebook, more opinions about whether we will have games, the risks involved in moving forward and what the fallout could be if the whistle is blown and play does not begin. It’s difficult for me to name a more influential voice than Sankey, the commissioner of the Southeastern Conference.

British Broadcasting Corporation Home. So I wonder if I were to ask Sir Emyr Jones Parry whether he thinks steps to establish the All-Wales Convention are being taken quickly enough, he’d be tempted to crack that diplomatic smile and say, “maybe”. Nick Bourne tried to be diplomatic a few weeks ago but managed to let slip that Sir Emyr was chomping at the bit, wanting to get a move-on and wishing the wheels weren’t grinding quite so slowly.

If Sir Emyr and the line-up of his Convention aren’t sorted by then and if they’re not seen and heard around that main show ring in their green wellies, then things won’t have gone according to plan. And I wonder too what Sir Emyr made of the Irish referendum result. It’s not his job to sell us a referendum of course, let alone the need for a referendum in the first place. He’s here to gauge our appetite for a vote and report back to the politicians.

So there’s no reason why he would have shuddered when he read that the massively outspent No campaign had swept to victory. But I bet the consummate diplomat just wondered whether there could there be any “read across” – apologies for the management term – for a referendum on further powers for the Assembly here in Wales? What might have struck him? That the Yes campaign held overwhelming advantages.

End of story. That the No campaign was a fairly ramshackle, down-home affair but with one or two significant financial backers.

Japanese Men + Western Women = Yes? No? Maybe?

The growth of online dating has led to an explosion of catfishing and the combination of lust, infatuation or love means that innocent people can get manipulated or exploited. These relationships can go on for years and often end in tragic emotional or financial consequences for the victims. Catfishers can be driven by anything from loneliness to obsession or revenge.

They can be motivated by the desire to live vicariously through a fake persona, to extort money from a victim, to make mischief or any number of other intentions. Other sinister cases can involve sexual predators or stalkers who use this online anonymity to get close to their victims.

Gender effects in risk taking have attracted much attention by economists, and remain debated. Loss aversion—the stylized finding that a given loss carries substantially greater weight than a monetarily equivalent gain—is a fundamental driver of risk aversion. We deploy four definitions of loss aversion commonly used in the literature to investigate gender effects.

Even though the definitions only differ in subtle ways, we find women to be more loss averse than men according to one definition, while another definition results in no gender differences, and the remaining two definitions point to women being less loss averse than men. Conceptually, these contradictory effects can be organized by systematic measurement error resulting from model mis-specifications relative to the true underlying decision process.

Gender effects in risk taking behaviour are a much-debated topic. The interest in differential risk taking by the sexes can be ascribed to its role as a potential explanation for gender differences in investment behaviour Sunden and Surette ; Dwyer et al. There is, however, little agreement on whether women truly have less appetite for risk than men.

While some findings indeed suggested that this is the case see Croson and Gneezy , for a review , a recent meta-analysis has cast doubt on the universality of gender effects Filippin and Crosetto

I am trying to work out if I should stop in Ipoh for a night or 2. I had thought that my boys might like the caves and hot springs I’m sure there are hot springs but trying to work out logistics I don’t know if it is worth it because of bus and train times. Would I be better off activites wise, sanity wise to stay at Penang another night we are there for 2 night, 3 full days or maybe KL another night we currently have 3 nights, 4 days in KL?? Either of these ways we can fly to JB.

Any advice? Anyone who has stopped off at Ipoh and not just to go to Cameron Highlands? I’ve stopped at Ipoh twice during our first drive to Penang from Singapore. After that we just stopover at KL and skip Ipoh.

Fuck Yes or No

One important factor is sheer numbers. If we look at official statistics for Japanese residents from Western countries as of the census , men certainly outnumber women in Japan—by a ratio of almost 2-to-1 if we exclude short-term residents and diplomats it’s 3-to-2 if they’re included. However, let’s take a closer look the difference for a moment. For example, let’s consider the United Kingdom: In Japan, there are over 11, male British long-term residents and nearly 4, female residents, most in the 20 to 60 age group.

While that’s nearly 3-to-1 in favor of men, marriages among residents show an even larger gap.
